How to make Coconut Butter
It’s more economical, cost effective (and fun!) to make coconut butter in the comfort of your own kitchen. All you need to do is blend ‘unsweetened’ coconut flakes in a high powered blender or food processor until you have a creamy puree. It’s as easy as making almond butter >>
(this will make 1 to 2 cups of delicious, creamy coconut butter)
- Pour at least 4 cups of coconut flakes/shreds into your food processor or blender (if you use less it’s difficult to get the right consistency)
- Blend for 15 to 20 minutes in a food processor or for 10 minutes or less in a blender. You may need to scrape the insides of the processor/blender if the blade doesn’t catch and blend all the coconut.
- The coconut will go through three stages when turning into butter:
1. firstly the texture will be finely shredded,
2. then thin into a grainy liquid,
3. and finally turning into a smooth, thick liquid.
The finished butter appears runny but the texture will be like a thick, sticky, slightly grainy peanut butter when tasted.
- Pour the butter into a glass jar and cover. Store at room temperature as the butter has a solid but spreadable consistency.
- To re-liquify solid coconut butter, place the jar in a saucepan filled with hot water and stir the butter until smooth.
